Welcome to Reception!
I am Mrs Wallis, I am delighted to be your EYFS class teacher. Alongside Mrs Peters and Miss Small, we are looking forward to supporting you as you start your school journey with us. In EYFS we have a play based Early Years Curriculum which is child initiated. We have a free-flow indoor and outdoor classroom with extensive space and range of resources. The class is a happy, engaging, creative and enriching environment, where the children begin their journey to become lifelong learner.
We recognise how important and special this year is for so many reasons and we aim to reflect that in all that we do throughout the year. We start by making sure the children are comfortable in their new school environment. Making friends and building positive relationships with staff is a priority so there is lots of time for play both independent or guided by the adults. Activities are carefully planned around our Talk for Writing texts, this half term we are reading ‘5 stories in 5 weeks’.
We will begin to introduce your child to sounds following the phonics scheme 'Read Write Inc'. We will introduce your child to Fred the frog. Fred can only say the sounds in a word and needs your child to help read the word. Fred will say the sounds and children will work out the word. For example, Fred will say the sounds c-a-t and children will say the word cat. This is Fred Talk: sounding out the word.
Our PE lessons will be on Tuesday and Wednesday. The children have a sports coach on the Wednesday.
On a Tuesday afternoon we will also be joined by Mrs Firkins who will lead our outdoor learning sessions, so don't forget your wellies and waterproofs on this day.
Please do come and speak to me after school if you have any questions or concerns.

Together we used our phonics knowledge to read the word, before shining our torches to reveal the picture to see if we were correct.

During science week Elsa sent us a letter, telling us that she had frozen the superheroes!
We then explored different ways to try and rescue them from the ice.

Superhero learning designing our own superhero capes.

RSPB Big Garden Bird Watch
As well as looking out for birds, we decorated egg by copying the patterns and found the lettered eggs to create our names in the nest.
