Year 2

Spring term 2026

Welcome back to a brand new year and a brand new exciting term! This term our overall topic is 'Land, Sea or Air?' in which we continue to revisit previous learning such as naming the oceans and the continents but we learn even more about how to get around our wonderful planet. We will look at the history of transport and how it has developed so much that we can go pretty much anywhere in the world we want to now!

We will also be reading the story of Supertato!! (One of my personal favourites ) This will involve us writing our own superhero stories, writing reports about superheroes and even drawing them in our art lessons! I can't wait to get started.

Parents....once the children have been assessed and reading books are issued please make sure they are reading daily. Also try to enjoy a story together each day....the power of reading together can never be underestimated!

PE will be continue to be on Tuesday's and Wednesday's, please make sure children are in the correct kit and earrings are removed!

Please feel free to chat to myself at a convenient time if there are any issues. Tuesday's after school are always a good time as I am meeting free on this day! I'm always willing to listen and help where I can

Our big topic this Spring term is 'Land, Sea or Air?' in which we will continue to explore the planet but with a focus on how we might get to places and how this has changed over the years. Let's Go, Go, Go!!!!

Year 2 designed and made their own Christmas stockings which were then filled with little goodies for them to take home and enjoy.

YEAR 2 GALLERY 2025 - 2026

Our big topic in the Autumn term was 'BLUE PLANET'.

 In art we are looking at a famous picture called 'The Great Wave'. We are recreating it using different mediums. So far we have used pastels and paints. We learnt how to make different tints of blue using white.

We learnt the story of Meerkat Mail. We have written our own versions of the story, written acrostic poems about meerkats and written descriptions of meerkats so far!

In Geography we are learning about the 7 continents and the 5 oceans! Ask your child if they can name them all. Even better sing them all!!

Our art unit has been all about shading! What do you think of our Superhero artwork?

We have written superhero stories based on Supertato and superhero poems!

Love is in the air in Year 2! 

This term we are learning all about money!! How many ways can you make 50p? Let me know!

 We need to know how to partition numbers into tens and ones and then in other ways! Then we ordered and compared numbers. Finally we were counting forwards and backwards in 2s 5s and 10s. We are now moving on to addition and subtraction.

In English we have been learning our new Talk 4 Writing story 'Meerkat Mail'.

In Year 2 we are 'Intrepid Explorers!!' so we need to name and locate the 7 continents.

In art we are looking at a very famous painting called 'The Great Wave'. We have recreated it so far using coloured pencils and watercolours.

IN PSHE we are thinking about 'Rights and Responsibilities'. We decided on some class rules and thought about how we are ALL responsible for making Year 2 a safe, happy place.
