Autumn Term 2026

So.....Here we are. A new year, a new classroom, a new start!! Lots of changes for all, especially me, Mrs Barker, as I am new to year 4 but excited to be teaching you - again!!!! We have lots to look forward to this term with our exciting topic all about Ancient Greece. There is so much to learn and to find out. I can't wait!

We will also be working really hard on our times tables this term in preparation for the Multiplication Tables Check later in the school year. We will learn them through practise, games, songs and all sorts of fun ways, so don't worry if you find some of them tricky, I still do!!! By the end of the year we will all be experts!!!

All I ask is that you try your best, work hard and be kind to yourself and to others. We have got this Year 4......LET'S GO!!!

We have been creating clay dragon eyes for our artwork this term. Come back to see the final painted masterpieces!

In art this term, we have been learning about pointillism and looking at the French artist Georges Seurat. As our final art piece we used this technique to paint a picture of the Naze Tower. 

 

To start off our new class topic 'Passport to Europe' we looked at artwork by French artist Claude Monet and used his 'Water Lilies' collection to inspire our water colour paintings. 

Year 4 won the class attendance this term so got to have a class party with music, games and snacks! We had a great time!  

 

We wrote some instructions for “How to steal Christmas” in the style of the Grinch. 

For design and technology, we have been learning to cross stitch. We made a cross stich of a Christmas Tree. 

 

We’ve received some lovely homework this term. 

This is our Poppy artwork we created to show respect for those who fought for us on Remembrance Day. This is displayed in a window at the front of the school building - please go and look at it with your child. 

In science this term, we have been learning about Solids, liquids and gases. We identified different items that fit into each state but during our practical lesson we made Oobleck which we found didn't fit into one category! It is known as a 'Non-Newtonian fluid', which means sometimes it acts as a solid and sometimes as a liquid. 

In art, we have been using paper mache to create a Greek Vase model in pairs. We are going to then paint them with a Greek design. 
 

In English, we have been learning the story of the ‘The Wild Girl’ for our model text. We acted out parts of the story in groups.
