Year 5 2026-2027

A big welcome back to Year 5. We have had a wonderful first few days together. Our topic this term is 'Changes'. In History, we will be learning about crime and punishment, and how this has changed over time.  In geography, in our second half-term, we'll be looking at mapping – the different types of maps, how to read a map, 8 points of the compass, and brushing up on our knowledge of landmarks and countries. Our science focus will be reversible and irreversible changes, and we will be having lots of fun with some rather messy experiments to help us investigate this further. In art, our focus is on figures in motion, linking to the artist Degas, whilst in music we will be using our voices and instruments to create different rhythms and exploring the pulse. In computing and PSHE, we'll look at self-image.

We are lucky to be joined by coaches from Colchester United who will continue our PE lessons on Wednesdays each week, and we are excited about swimming every Monday as well.

A great start back so far!

Please make sure your child has a named water bottle and coat in school every day as we move into autumn and the more unpredictable weather.

We're very much looking forward to getting to know the children more, and having a great year of learning and fun together.

ARCHIVED YEAR 5 2025-2026

Map of the UK Collage

We have been creating a collage of the UK. The children have been working in groups to construct their designs. They have used different materials and been trying to make some of their landmarks 3D.

Maya Masks

A massive thankyou to everyone that came in to help us with our masks, they are amazing! The children are very proud of their designs and it is fantastic how each one is so individual.

HOOK - Action text

We had great fun completing an assault course for our HOOK into our action scene writing.

The Shadow Bandits

Congratulations to our band for an amazing performance!

Enterprise Week

We were busy making magnets to sell on our stall this week. We are looking forward to finding out how much we made!

Christmas Bread Designing and Making

Today we made our Christmas bread that we have carefully designed.

Road Safety

We had Elizabeth visit us about road safety. She spent time going through some helpful tips and then we put these into practice outside by crossing some roads safely.
